cuz the only look i can pull off is the one where the front is picked up, and gelled in place, but i just hate how the gel leaves my hair. is there another hairstyle i can try?
What hair style can a dude with thick, short hair, that is somewhat straight?
thick hair is kinda hard to work with why dont you try to use like a oil type base i forgot what its called but if you just use a little it wont make your hair greasy but it will keep it in place but soft. some gels in the jar are light weight and it wont make your hair feel hard. what about moose or hairspray just in the front and leave the rest alone. if you want it so its not so poofy when you get out of the shower put a hat on and it will flatten it out. there really is not much to do with your hair cuz your style now is whats hot these days i mean if you comb it to the side its dorkey you know. lol good luck

if you like the style but not the gel, try a hair cream for your hair, it doesnt make your hair stiff but still holds it in place.

For a guy who is somewhat straight I would have no clue what to tell him...

you can spike you hair up with gel, and maybe put a few high lights in your hair.

How about a crewcut?

most hairstyling products will leave you with the same effect as gel, but you can try hair wax or a creamy gel. Just brush it through your hair so that it spikes up. That's a great look for guys. If you use the wax or the cream, you can re-fix it over and over again, and it won't flake your hair. If you want it to stay in place, just spray some hairspray over it.

If you don't like the feeling of gel, try hair pomade instead.

Try an ice-freeze hairspray. There are many on the market to use. That way you can keep your hairstyle the way it is. If you don't get results (which I don't see why not) you should just part your hair on the side and keep it short and manageable.
